Minhajul Islam was arrested by Jaipurhat-20 BGB battalion along with gold bars.
One person was arrested along with 16 gold bars from West Uchna border of Panchbibi, Jaipurhat. BGB calls it ‘gold smuggling’.
Jaipurhat-20 BGB Battalion Commander Lt. Col. Mohammad Tanjilur Rahman Bhuiyan said that after he was arrested on Wednesday afternoon, he was handed over to the police at Panchbibi police station at night.
Detained Minhajul Islam is a resident of Paschim Uchna village of Panchbibi upazila.
BGB captain Tanjilur said that the BGB members conducted an operation there on the secret information that smugglers were smuggling gold to India through Uchna border area. Meanwhile, gold smuggler Minhajul Islam was arrested along with gold bars.
The BGB official also said that the weight of seized gold is 1 kg 650 grams, the current market value of which is 1 crore 90 lakh 38 thousand 825 taka.
Jaipurhat-20, while smuggling gold into India through various borders under the jurisdiction of BGB, a total of 9 smugglers including 6 kg 648.40 grams of gold worth about seven crore rupees have been arrested five times since last February 14.
Among them, three people with 1 kg 166.40 grams of gold worth Tk 1 crore 10 lakh 53 thousand 389 on February 14, one with 1 kg 50 grams of gold worth Tk 1 crore 10 lakh on March 5, one with 450 grams of gold worth Tk 44 lakh 80 thousand on March 8 and last On March 29, Joypurhat-20 BGB members arrested two gold smugglers along with 20 gold bars worth Tk 2.3 million.
