Struggle Online: 367 people were killed in road accidents during the Eid trip in Bangladesh this year. Compared to last time, road accidents and fatalities have increased during the Eid trip. In the 15 days before and after the holy Eid-ul-Fitr, 367 people were killed and at least 1500 injured in 358 road accidents in the country. And this year, the financial value of human resource loss due to road accidents during Eid Yatra stands at 1 thousand 330 crores.
Today (Wednesday), Road Safety Foundation has presented these information in a press conference organized at its own office in Dhanmondi of the capital. According to the organization, most people die in motorcycle accidents.
According to the Road Safety Foundation, 285 people lost their lives in 240 accidents during Eid-ul-Fitr last year.
Chairman of the organization Professor AI Mahbub Uddin Ahmed presented the written report in the press conference. According to the report, 63 women and 74 children were among those killed in the accident. 156 people died in 183 motorcycle accidents which is 42.50 percent of the total deaths. 68 pedestrians were killed in the accident, which is 18.52 percent of the total fatalities. 41 people were killed, the driver and assistant of the vehicle. The Road Safety Foundation compiled the report based on data from nine national dailies, seven online news portals and electronic media.
Pointing out the lack of continuity of effective initiatives to control road accidents, the Road Safety Foundation says, ‘Road accidents have become a constant source of terror in our lives. To improve this situation, sustainable road transport strategy should be formulated and implemented. And this requires political will.’#
