Chittagong is the busiest communication channel in North Chittagong–Kaptai Road. But due to various reasons, this busiest road is becoming chaotic. Illegal constructions on both sides of the road, Additional vehicle pressure, Car without fitness, Incompetent drivers and at least 40 bends in the 52 km from Kaptai road head to Kaptai have turned the road into a dangerous and chaotic road. Accidents happen every day, Passengers are constantly suffering due to heavy traffic. The stakeholders demanded strict monitoring to stop inefficient drivers and vehicles without fitness along with road widening to restore order. According to sources, The march of death on the Kaptai road does not seem to stop. Accidents happen regularly on this road. Last Monday (22 April) Two students of Chuet namely Kajal Saha and Taufiq Hossain lost their lives when a reckless Shah Amanat Paribahan bus hit a motorcycle in the afternoon. Zakaria Himu, another student of Chuet, was seriously injured. Chuet students are continuing their protest by blocking the road for the last two days in this incident. Before this, Chittagong on March 21 of last month–Autorickshaw driver Mohammad Abdul Hannan was killed by a pickup in front of Ichakhali Apan Club in Rangunia on Kaptai Road. (34). Although the footpath has been encroached on several times, it is being occupied again. There is heavy traffic on the road, Daily suffering continues with regular road accidents.
Humayan Kabir who came to Roajarhat Bazar said, Due to haphazard parking of vehicles and pick and drop of passengers on the road, the traffic jams in Roarjarhat continue throughout the day. But still no action is taken against them. Chittagong–Kaptai Road Workers Union leader Shah Alam Chowdhury said, The bends are very dangerous. To get rid of it, it is necessary to install warning signboards and transparent mirrors at turns. Renovation of curves will reduce accidents.
Russell Chowdhury, the leader of the Bus Owners Association, said, A meeting was held in the mediation of the District Commissioner It has been decided to conduct an operation in the field for the next month to restore order on the road. Apart from this, it was informed in the meeting that road widening work will be started within the next month. Public representatives expressed their anger in the upazila’s monthly law enforcement meeting about the severe traffic jam and accidents on the road. At that time, the upazila executive officer. Raihan Mehbub said, The administration will be on the ground with zero tolerance policy to restore order on the roads.
