Sachin and Sagar put up strong performances on day two of the 7th Elite Men’s National Boxing Championship

2022 Commonwealth Games silver medalist Sagar (92kg+) and 2021 World Youth Gold medalist Sachin (57kg) registered dominant victories on the second day of the 7th National Men’s Elite Boxing Championship in Shillong on Sunday.

Sachin, who plays for SSCB, faced an underperforming Vishal Kumar of Punjab in the first round. Sachin ended the match unanimously with a margin of 5-0. He will face Rajasthan’s Roshan Saini in the last sixteen on Tuesday.

Sagar, who represents the RSPB (Railway Sports Promotion Board), defeated Uttarakhand’s Shubham Singh by referee’s stoppage decision in the first round. Sagar will face SSCB’s Satish Kumar in the last 16 on Tuesday.

SSCB’s reigning World Youth Champion Banshaji (63.5kg) also put up a dominant performance against All India Police’s (AIP) Ashish. Showcasing his technical prowess, the highly-rated youngster denied his opponent a chance to come back, securing a 5-0 win. Vanjaj will face Uttar Pradesh’s Ratandeep Sharma in the last 16 on Tuesday.

Three-time national champion Barinder Singh (60kg), representing the RSPB (Railway Sports Promotion Board), also advanced to the last 16 with a 5-0 unanimous decision win over Maharashtra’s Vishal Nupe. Barinder will face Rajasthan’s Lokesh Khichi in the last 16 clash on Tuesday.

More than 350 boxers from 13 weight classes competed in the tournament.

Nehru Women’s Hockey Championship: RSPB beat KICSE

Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) defeated Khalo Indian Center of Sports Excellence (KICSE), Bilaspur in SNBP 2nd Nehru Women’s Hockey Championship League at Shivaji Stadium on Monday.

Shift dominates at 50m rifle prone;

Asian Games gold medalist Sift Kaur Samra continued her good run by finishing first in the women’s 50m rifle prone event at the 66th National Shooting Championships on Monday.

India’s top three goalscorer with 627.3 points is ahead of Odisha’s Sriyanka Sadangir, who has 624.7 points. Rajasthan’s Manini Kaushik finished third and Samra along with Anjum Mudgil and Banshika Shahi also won team gold for Punjab.

Bandvi Singh of Madhya Pradesh and Nishchal of Haryana won the civilian and junior titles respectively.
