Ex-wife strangulated to death for cheating

A woman has been killed in Jessore for allegedly stealing money through fraud after separation. Police have arrested the ex-husband of the accused woman in this incident. On Wednesday (April 24) morning, the police recovered the body of the woman from the banks of Bukvara Baor in Mathbari village of Jessore Sadar Upazila.

Three mobile phones were recovered from the body. The police arrested the accused and the identity of the dead woman based on the phone.

Deceased Khadija Khatun alias Mitu Karmakar (30) is daughter of Ajgar Ali Sardar of Dhandiya Krishnanagar village of Patkelghata police station in Satkhira. After marriage, he converted and took the name Mitu Karmakar. The arrested Mrinmoy Bhadra is the son of Madan Kumar Bhadra of Chandutia village of Jessore Sadar Upazila. Currently he lives in Damodarkathi village of Kalaroa upazila of Satkhira.

Jessore DB Police OC Rupan Kumar Sarkar held a press conference at his office on Wednesday at 12:30 noon to reveal the mystery of the murder. In the press conference, OC said, ‘Khajida’s life was disorderly. He used to take drugs regularly. Patkelghata police station has two cases including drug cases. A couple of years ago, she got into a relationship with a Hindu boy. A convert from Muslim to Hinduism, Khadija became Mitu Karmakar. Because of riotous living, there is separation in that family.’

OC also said, ‘Then met Mrinmoy Bhandra at a dance event in Satkhira. After a long love affair, they got married. A few years ago Mitu and Mrinmoy got separated. Still they were in touch. While they were married, Mitu stole three lakh rupees by cheating them with their intimate pictures and videos. Having been cheated many times, Mrinmoy called Mitu on Tuesday and went to Jessore’s chest. After taking drugs there, he strangulated him to death at around 11:00 pm and left the body in the paddy fields of Bawar Par and ran away. Mrinmoy was arrested from his uncle’s house on the basis of the mobile phone lying next to the dead body. He was sent to jail by the court in the afternoon.

Jessore Kotwali Police Station Inspector (Investigation) AKM Shafiqul Alam Chowdhury said, ‘The dead body has been recovered and sent to the Jessore General Hospital morgue.’
