Ex-wife killed for ‘blackmailing’, 1 arrested

Police have arrested ex-husband in case of murder of ex-wife due to ‘blackmail’ in Jessore. On Wednesday (April 24) morning, the body of the woman wearing a sari was recovered from the banks of Bukvara Baor in Mathbari village of Sadar upazila.

At this time, a mobile phone was recovered from the side of the body. Later, the police arrested the identity of the woman and the accused ex-husband on the basis of the phone.

The deceased woman’s name is Khadija Khatun alias Mitu Karmakar. She is the daughter of Ajgar Ali Sardar of Dhandia Krishnanagar village of Patkelghata police station in Satkhira. After marriage, he converted and changed his name to Mitu Karmakar.

The detained Mrinmoy Bhadra is a resident of Chandutia village of Jessore Sadar Upazila. Currently he lives in Damodarkathi village of Kalaroa upazila of Satkhira.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jessore DB Police Rupan Kumar Sarkar said that Mitu and Mrinmoy got married two years ago. Then there was a separation. Still they were in contact. On Tuesday (April 23) around 11 pm, Mrinmoy strangled Mitu to death and left the body in a paddy field in Bawar. Mrinmoy was arrested from his uncle’s house on the basis of the mobile phone lying next to the body, he said.

Mrinmoy Bhadra, who was detained, said that even after the separation, he was called and killed from Patkelghata in Satkhira because he was being ‘blackmailed’ several times and asked for money.
