The diving team of the fire service has rescued two youths who went missing while fishing in Matamuhuri river in Chakria of Cox’s Bazar.

The diving team of the fire service recovered the bodies of two youths six hours after they went missing while fishing in the Matamuhuri river of Chakaria upazila of Cox’s Bazar.

Union Parishad (UP) Chairman Farhana Afrin Munna said that they went missing in the river in Anichpara of East Bara Veola Union of the upazila around 10 am on Wednesday.

The deceased are – Manchur Alam (21) son of Idris Mia of Kalaghaji Sikder Para of Ward No. 5 of East Bara Veola Union of Upazila and Abdus Salam son of Sikder Para Village of Ward No. 7. Mubin (18).

UP Chairman Farhana Afrin said that in the morning Manchur and Mubin went down to fish in the river. He traveled for quite some time. When they did not get out of the water after getting the news, the residents of the river bank started looking for them. On receiving the information, Pekua Fire Service personnel joined the rescue operation.

Later, fire service diving team was brought from Chittagong and their bodies were recovered around 4 pm, he said.

Bappi Barua, a firefighter of Pekua Fire Service, said that the bodies of the two youths were recovered after searching the river with the help of local people by bringing a diving team from Chittagong.
