Recently, like the whole country, road accidents have increased in Sylhet division and the number of casualties in accidents has increased. Human chain was organized at Sylhet central Shaheed Minar on Wednesday (April 24) at 12 noon on the initiative of Nischa Sylhet district branch to request the administration’s strict supervision to stop road accidents and the intervention of the Prime Minister to restore order in the transport sector.

Nischa Central Committee Co-Organizing Secretary and Sylhet District Branch Convener Zahirul Islam Mishu presided over and member Rasheduzzaman Rashed conducted the welcoming speech by Nischa Sylhet District Branch Member Secretary Principal Md. Saiful Karim Chowdhury Hayat.

Speakers in the human chain said that recently they called on the administration to increase strict vigilance to prevent road accidents. The speakers said that the culprits of road accidents should be properly investigated and brought under the law quickly, dividers should be placed on the roads, danger spots should be identified on regional and highways and warning bill boards should be set up, unfit vehicles should be banned from the highways, and the high court judgment should be implemented to ban three-wheelers on the highways. He urged to increase the activity of highway police, issue license to BRT in proper manner.

On behalf of Nischa Sylhet District Branch, Convener of District Branch Zahirul Islam Mishu presented 4 point demands. The demands are: Declaring road accidents as a national problem, forming a national cell headed by a retired judge of the Supreme Court, providing compensation to the victims of road accidents in light of the Road Transport Act 2018 and immediate payment of compensation as per the guidelines of a trust formed for the purpose of rehabilitation, Road Transport Act Full implementation of 2018.
