Compared to last year, this year’s holy Eid-ul-Fitr Eid journey has seen an increase in accidents and fatalities. 367 people were killed in 358 road accidents in the country in the 15 days before and after Eid Yatra (April 4-18). At least 1500 people were injured. The financial value of the loss of human resources in these accidents is 1 thousand 330 crores.

The Road Safety Foundation gave this information in a press conference on Wednesday (April 24). Chairman of the organization Professor AI Mahbub Uddin Ahmed presented the written report in the press conference.

According to the agency, 285 people lost their lives in 240 accidents during Eid-ul-Fitr last year. This time 367 people were killed in 358 road accidents. At least 1500 people were injured. According to this, accidents increased by 39.20 percent and fatalities increased by 20.19 percent during this year’s Eid-ul-Fitr.

According to the Road Safety Foundation, 63 women and 74 children were killed in the accident. 156 people died in 183 motorcycle accidents, which is 42.50 percent of the total deaths. 68 pedestrians were killed in the accident, which is 18.52 percent of the total fatalities. 41 people were killed, the driver and assistant of the vehicle. At this time, 7 people were killed in three boat accidents. 19 people were killed and 17 injured in 14 railway accidents.

According to the agency, there is no continuity of effective initiatives to control road accidents. It has become a constant source of panic in our lives. Everything is going smoothly. Most road accidents occur due to mismanagement of the road transport sector. To improve this situation, sustainable road transport strategy should be formulated and implemented. This requires political will.

The report was prepared by Road Safety Foundation based on information from 9 national dailies, seven online news portals and electronic media.
