The bodies of two youths who went missing while fishing at the Anichpara point of Matamuhuri river in Chakaria East Bara Veola Union of Cox’s Bazar were recovered after about seven hours by the fire service diving team from Chittagong.

Earlier today, Wednesday (April 24) around 9 o’clock in the morning, some young people went fishing. Among them, two young men fell into the deep sand. Basically, this silt is created due to illegal extraction of sand by installing sand machines in the river.

The two youths who died are – Manchur Alam (21), son of Idris Mia of Kalaghaji Sikder Para, Ward No. 5 of Purb Bara Veola Union of Chakaria Upazila, and Abdus Salam, son of Sikder Para Village of Ward No. 7, Md. Mubin (18).

Farhana Afrin Munna, chairman of Purba Bara Veola Union Parishad confirmed this information.

He said that Manchur and Mubin went fishing in Matamuhuri river on Wednesday morning. When they did not come out of the water, the residents of the river bank organized and started searching for the two youths. After a while Chakaria fire service personnel also joined the rescue operation. Still, the two missing youths were not found till 2 pm. However, due to the diligence of the diving team from Chittagong, the two bodies were brought to the shore around 4 pm.

Sheikh Mohammad Ali, OC of Chakaria Police Station, said that after the recovery of the bodies of the two youths, they have been handed over to the families after the legal process.
