The court has sentenced nephew Thandu to life imprisonment in the case of murder of brave freedom fighter Mozaffar Ali in West Rohitpur area of Keraniganj, Dhaka.
On Wednesday (April 24) afternoon, Dhaka’s Eighth Additional District and Sessions Judge Minhajul Monira’s court announced the verdict in the presence of only the accused. In addition to life imprisonment, Thandu has been sentenced to a fine of Tk 10,000, in default of which he has been sentenced to one more month without labour.
In the judgment of the case, the court sentenced the accused to another 10 years in prison for causing serious injury to the daughter of freedom fighter Mozaffar Ali. In addition, a fine of five thousand taka, in default of payment, he was sentenced to another month’s imprisonment.

Before the verdict was announced, the accused Thandu was produced in the court from the jail. At the end of the verdict, he was again sent to prison with a sentencing warrant.
According to the complaint, after Thandu’s father died, he sold his property to his uncle Mozaffar Ali and moved away. Sometimes he came to his uncle and demanded money for expenses. On July 15, 2021, he asked his uncle for 500 rupees. Mozaffar Ali gave him 200 taka and said no more. Later he went to take a bath in the tube well in front of the house. Thandu rushed there and inserted a knife into his uncle’s stomach. At that time, her elder daughter Zelina Akhtar tried to save her father and injured her too. Both were taken to Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital. Later, the doctor on duty declared Mozaffar Ali dead. The day after that incident Nargis Begum, wife of Mozaffar Ali filed the case.
After investigating the case on February 27, 2022, Sub-Inspector (SI) Mahabubur Rahman Hamid of Keraniganj Model Police Station filed a charge sheet accusing Thandu. During the trial of the case, the court heard the testimony of 11 out of 16 witnesses.
