A Rohingya youth named Syedul Amin (45) was allegedly hacked to death in a Rohingya camp in Cox’s Bazar’s Ukhia.

The incident took place on Tuesday (April 23) around 6 pm at D Block of Camp-II W, Ukhiya. The deceased youth is the son of Ashraf Ali of A/11 Block of Camp No.2.

Shamim Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ukhia police station confirmed the matter.

He said that a young Rohingya named Syedul Amin was on his way home by unidentified miscreants who stopped him near the mosque of W. D Block of Camp 2. At that time, he was stabbed in various parts of the body including the head with a sharp weapon and ran away. Syedul Amin died on the spot due to excessive bleeding due to sharp weapon injuries.

The OC also said that the police are not sure what caused the murder. However, the police initially believe that the murder was committed due to the domination of the Rohingya camp.

Shamim Hossain said that the police is conducting an operation to arrest those involved in the incident. He said, the body was recovered and sent to Cox’s Bazar District Sadar Hospital morgue for post-mortem.
