The train fare is increasing from May 4. Railways’ decision not to give concession (discount) to passengers for long-distance travel will increase train fares to a maximum of 30 percent. Besides, if a particular person or organization wants to rent a room in the train, they will have to pay additional charges according to the class. This is called Reservation Service Charge. The sale of additional fare tickets in the train is starting today from Wednesday.
In a circular last Monday, Bangladesh Railway announced the decision to withdraw concessions and make them effective. According to railway sources, currently no concession is given for traveling up to 100 km by rail. But there are different levels of concessions for more trips. For example, 20 percent discount is given on the fare for the next 101 to 250 km. A discount of 25 percent is available for traveling between 251 and 400 km. And above 401 km discount is 30 percent.
The railway notification said, “For general information, distance-wise and section-wise concessions were given in Bangladesh Railway in 1992. In 2012, the ‘Sectional Rebate’ was abolished but the distance based Rebate remains in force. Recently, it has been decided to withdraw only the existing distance-based concession without increasing fares on passenger trains.” According to the Sahaj-Synesis-Vincen JV and railway sources, according to the new list, the fare of shovan chair class will increase from Tk 345 to Tk 405 and the fare of AC chair (Snigdha) class will increase from Tk 656 to Tk 777 on the Dhaka-Chittagong route from May 4. money
Below is the list of additional train fares – The fare of Shobhan Chair and AC Chair (Snigdha) class on Dhaka-Kishorganj route in Kishoreganj Express train will be increased from Tk 150 and Tk 288 to Tk 160 and Tk 305 respectively. On the Dhaka-Rajshahi route, the fare of Sobhon Chair and AC Chair (Snigdha) class will be increased from Tk 340 and Tk 656 to Tk 405 and Tk 771 respectively on the Silk City Express train. On the Dhaka-Noakhali route, the fare of Sobhon Chair and AC Chair (Snigdha) class will be increased from Tk 275 and Tk 524 to Tk 310 and Tk 593 respectively on the Coastal Express train. On the Dhaka-Sylhet route, the fare of Shovan Chair and AC Chair (Snigdha) class will be increased from Tk 320 and Tk 610 to Tk 375 and Tk 719 respectively on the Parabat Express train.
On Dhaka-Mohanganj route Mohanganj Express train, the fare of Sobhan Chair and AC Chair (Snigdha) class will increase from Tk 220 and Tk 426 to Tk 250 and Tk 472 respectively. On the Dhaka-Khulna route Sundarban Express train, the fare of Sobhan Chair and AC Chair (Snigdha) class will increase from Tk 500 and Tk 955 to Tk 625 and Tk 1,196 respectively. On the Dhaka-Lalmonirhat route, the fare of Shovan Chair and AC Chair (Snigdha) class will be increased from Tk 505 and Tk 966 respectively in the Lalmoni Express train to Tk 635 and Tk 1,214. On the Dhaka-Rangpur route, the fare of Shobhan Chair and AC Chair (Snigdha) class will be increased from Tk 505 and Tk 966 in Rangpur Express train to Tk 635 and Tk 1,214 respectively.
On the Dhaka-Chapainawabganj route, the fare of Shovan Chair and AC Chair (Snigdha) class will be increased from Tk 425 and Tk 810 to Tk 512 and Tk 975 respectively in the Banlata Express train. On the Dhaka-Kurigram route, the fare of Sobhan Chair and AC Chair (Snigdha) class will be increased from Tk 510 and Tk 972 to Tk 645 and Tk 1,237 respectively on the Kurigram Express train. On Dhaka-Chilahati route Chilahati Express train, the fare of Shovan Chair and AC Chair (Snigdha) class will increase from Tk 495 and Tk 949 to Tk 620 and Tk 1,185 respectively. On the Dhaka-Benapole route, the fare of Sobhan Chair and AC Chair (Snigdha) class will be increased from Tk 480 and Tk 920 to Tk 600 and Tk 1,150 respectively on the Benapole Express train.
On the Dhaka-Bhoonapur route, the fares of Sobhon Chair and AC Chair (Snigdha) class will be increased from Tk 260 and Tk 495 to Tk 295 and Tk 570 respectively in the Jamalpur Express train. On the Dhaka-Dewanganj route, the fare of Sobhon chair and AC chair (Snigdha) class will be increased from Tk 225 and Tk 426 to Tk 250 and Tk 476 respectively on the Teesta Express train. Apart from this, the fares for AC seats and berths and first class seats and berths in all inter-city trains for a distance of more than 100 km will also increase at a proportionate rate, except for Shovan chairs and AC chairs.
