Contempt of court orders will be announced today against seven pro-BNP advocates for holding press conferences and rallies against two judges of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court.
The Appellate Bench headed by the Chief Justice will announce the order on Wednesday (April 24). Today this application is at the beginning for orders.
Advocate Maqsood Ullah, a pro-BNP lawyer, confirmed the matter. He said, the order of contempt of court against seven lawyers will be announced today.
Earlier, the Appellate Bench led by Chief Justice Obaidul Hasan set the order date after hearing the matter on Tuesday (April 23).
These lawyers appeared in the Appellate Division in connection with holding a press conference and rally against two judges of the Appellate Division on January 15.
7 Lawyers are – Nationalist Lawyers Forum President and former Attorney General AJ Mohammad Ali, Forum Secretary General and BNP Legal Affairs Secretary Barrister Kaiser Kamal, BNP Executive Committee Member Advocate Fahima Nasreen Munni, Nationalist Lawyers Forum Supreme Court Branch President Abdul Jabbar Bhuiyan, Supreme Court Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajal, former editor of the Bar, Advocate Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman Khan, former Co-Editor of the Supreme Court Bar and Advocate Gazi Kamrul Islam Sajal, General Secretary of the Supreme Court Branch of the Nationalist Lawyers Forum.
Earlier, on November 15, the Appellate Division summoned seven top lawyer leaders of the BNP to give an explanation for holding a press conference and rally against the two judges of the Appellate Division. They were asked to appear in court on January 15. Besides, they are asked to strictly follow the High Court’s order not to hold any kind of processions in all court premises including the Supreme Court.
On August 30, the Appellate Division directed the lawyers to strictly follow the High Court’s verdict on not holding any kind of processions and gatherings in all the courts including the Supreme Court premises. At the same time, the court fixed October 19 to hear the contempt of court petition against seven lawyer leaders of the BNP, including former Attorney General AJ Mohammad Ali, president of the Nationalist Lawyers Forum.
A contempt of court petition was filed against seven lawyer leaders of BNP for holding a press conference and rally against two judges of the Appellate Division on August 29. Advocate Nahid Sultana Juthi filed this application on behalf of lawyer Nazmul Huda.
The Nationalist Lawyers Forum held multiple press conferences against the two judges of the Appellate Division for speaking at the Mourning Day discussion meeting on August 15, referring to ‘judges as sworn politicians’. Besides, a program was announced to prevent those two judges from judging.
