Hundreds of bodies emerge from a grave in Gaza

A mass grave has been discovered in a hospital in the city of Khan Younis in the besieged Palestinian Gaza Strip. So far, about 300 bodies have been recovered from this mass grave. On Monday (April 22), the Palestinian private defense department reported this information. The UN human rights chief is appalled by such an incident.

Colonel Yamen Abu Suleiman, Director of Private Defense Department of Khan Younis, said that they found a mass grave in Nasser Medical Complex last Saturday. Another 73 bodies were recovered from this mass grave on Monday. A total of 283 bodies have been recovered so far. In addition, 30 bodies were found in a mass grave in Al Shifa hospital premises.

He said that several bodies were found with their hands and feet tied. Some have hanging marks on their fields. Also we don’t know if they were buried alive or executed. Most of the bodies were decomposed.

Earlier, Khan Younis Private Defense Department spokesman and head of the search mission, Rayed Saqar, said they were searching for the bodies of another 400 missing people after the withdrawal of Israeli forces on April 7. According to reports, the bodies were buried under piles of waste. Among them were women and elderly people.

UN human rights chief Volker Turk expressed alarm at reports of mass graves in Gaza hospitals. On Tuesday (April 23), he said he was horrified by reports of the destruction of Nasser and Al-Shifa medical facilities in Gaza and the mass burial of hundreds of bodies there. This was reported by Reuters with reference to a spokesperson.

On April 7, the Israeli military withdrew from this city in southern Gaza. The mass grave was discovered only after Israeli forces left the city.

In January and February of this year, Israeli forces bombarded the area around the Nasser Medical Complex. Apart from this, they also had a fierce fight with the fighters of Hamas. Due to these reasons, the area has now become a ruin.

Meanwhile, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it had removed dozens of bodies from Gaza for DNA testing to identify the hostages in Israel.
