Marcus Stoinis breaks historic record Intense Vibrant Light sets record for highest individual runs in Indian Premier League history. Lucknow Super Giants defeated Ruturaj Gaikwad’s side at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Tuesday, ending Chennai Super Kings’ unbeaten run in the 2024 Indian Premier League. Marcus Stoinis scored a miraculous 124* off 63 balls in the last over of the innings to take the team home. Supergiants managed a double over CSK in IPL 2024 as they beat CSK in the previous match as well.
After solving the Super Giants’ No. 3 problem, Marcus Stoinis became the star of LSG. He responded to Ruturaj Gaikwad’s century with a scintillating century of his own. Stonis scored 56 to keep Lucknow in form throughout the match.
Stoinis broke Paul Valthat’s 13-year-old record for the highest score in an IPL match with a successful chase. In 2011, Valthati scored 120* against CSK.
Highest score for successful run chase in IPL:
124* – Marcus Stoinis (LSG) vs CSK, Chennai, 2024
120* – Paul Valthati (PBKS) vs CSK, Mohali, 2011
119 – Virender Sehwag (DC) vs Deccan Chargers, Hyderabad, 2011
119 – Sanju Samson (RR) vs PBKS, Mumbai WS, 2021
117* – Shane Watson (CSK) vs SRH, Mumbai WS, 2018 Final
Notably, LSG’s target of 211 against CSK was also the highest score at the Chennai venue. Earlier, CSK’s 206-run chase against RCB in 2012 was the highest at the venue.
Batting first, Chennai Super Kings scored 210 runs thanks to a brilliant century by their captain Gaikwad. Back in the slot again, Gaikwad batted with considerable tenacity, scoring 108 off 60 balls. He became the first CSK captain to score 100 goals in the Indian Premier League. Shivam Dubey showed his strength and scored 66 off just 27 deliveries. When MS Dhoni came in to bat, he hit a lone boundary, taking CSK to 210.
