Death of Bangladeshi while crossing from Albania to Greece

A Bangladeshi died while crossing the border from Albania to Greece.

Deceased Hafizur Rahman is the son of Ayub Ali of Gutgaon village of Jagannathpur upazila of Sunamganj.

His family confirmed his death on April 23. Currently, Hafizur’s body is lying in the morgue of Mother Teresa Hospital in Albania.

It is known that on March 29, Hafizur went to Kosovo, another European country, with an Orak permit visa. Although he stayed in the country for some time, he could not adapt himself to the language and environment. So he decided to go to Greece from there. Because he has brothers and relatives in Greece. From that thought, Hafizur moved from Kosovo to Albania with some other migrants. He went to Albania and stayed at a hotel for two days. Later, on April 20, Hafizur and five Bangladeshi migrants tried to enter Greece by crossing the border through brokers.

However, while entering Greece, Hafizur is said to have suffered a heat stroke in the mountains of the border. Meanwhile, the broker sent him to the hospital and left for Greece with the rest of the migrants. But the hospital authorities declared Hafizur dead and sent the body to the morgue.

Hafizur’s brother Abdur Rahman said, ‘I sent my younger brother to Kosovo with great difficulty. But he died on the way from Kosovo to Greece. Still can’t believe the news. However, we confirmed his death by contacting the hospital in Albania.

Regarding this, Biswajit Kumar Pal, Counselor (Labor) of Bangladesh Embassy in Greece said, ‘Hafizur’s family members have contacted. We are communicating in Albania. Efforts are underway to send the body to the country.
