Reckless motorcycle – great danger – accident, disability, death. Most of the accidents and deaths on the roads are on motorcycles. Motorcycles are increasing, accidents are increasing along with it. Even in this year’s traffic-free Eid trip, 50 percent of the total accidents on the roads were motorcycles, and 41 percent of the deaths. The average accident rate is 40 percent during normal times. A little more this time. The number of deaths also increased by 18%. According to experts, limited registration and proper management should be brought in now to control the number of motorcycles. No doubt, motorcycles are popular means of transportation.
Three teenagers on a motorcycle, two killed by a truck. Such events – daily, on rural roads, urban roads, highways or regional roads. Cause of the accident – While overtaking the vehicle in front, the motorcycle was hit by the truck coming from the opposite direction – carelessness or risky overtaking. How many people were on motorcycles, three people. All three are teenagers. Consequence – The death of the motorcyclist at the accident site and the injured co-passenger on the way to the hospital. Another is under treatment in hospital. In this way, speeding teenagers are losing their lives on the road.
Research says that the death toll has increased 4 times in 4 years. 40% of road deaths are motorcycle riders, this is the average rate. Motorcycle accidents have increased due to careless, reckless or speeding driving. These are the main reasons. This has made motorcycle accidents and deaths a regular occurrence.
Why and what is the reason? Motorcycle is a vehicle for young people to enjoy great speed and exciting or adventurous dangerous risks. It is natural that teenagers and youths full of youth want to ride around on motorcycles. According to them, it saves time, can run faster – reach the destination in the fastest time and travel comfortably with the motorcycle.
A motorcycle has to follow many rules. But youth doesn’t care about many things – wear helmet, don’t talk on mobile, don’t listen to music with headphones, don’t drive recklessly, keep speed under control, don’t over take carelessly or take risks, reckless speed, avoid competition, don’t swerve Driving, not carrying more than two people, not driving unless an adult and license-competent, knowing and obeying traffic laws – above all carelessness, that’s all.
Whatever the reason, it directly affects the motorcyclist and the rider. According to the doctors of paralytic and government hospitals, motorcycle accident patients come more. Many of whom have to have their legs amputated, their hands have to be amputated. Youth is being crippled, potential is being lost. Death is happening, life is ending.
Everyone wants to go first. Sudden and frequent lane changes in this cause more accidents from the side. Not knowing the traffic law, even if you don’t know it, don’t pay attention. Everyone is getting away with disobeying the law. Disobedience will increase if you get the edge. Hitting the road with a driving license, obeying traffic laws will reduce accidents. Reckless speed is not only high speed, driving without attention to left and right, changing lane with sudden pressure – not obeying rules and lack of skills. The sudden braking of a two-wheeler motorcycle and the braking of a four-wheeler bus driver are not the same. These are the reasons for the accident.
The number of bikes has increased a lot in five years. Registration is strict in cities but not on rural roads. Very relaxed in district-upazila. There is a rampage of stolen motorcycles in the border district. According to BRTA, while there are 3.1 lakh motorcycles across the country, only 1.8 lakh drivers have licences, almost half.
According to experts, there is a need to set a ceiling on the number of motorcycles that can be sold on the road. In these calculations, motorcycle regulation and necessity are discouraged in almost all countries. Which is not even sold to him. Anyone can neither buy nor drive. Rules must be followed. Because motorcycles are 30% more dangerous than four-wheeled vehicles.
That means the use of motorcycles should be reduced. Then town service – public transport should be arranged. Because motorcycles have grown rapidly as an alternative to public transport. Rides are also being shared. Dhaka has not yet developed public transport system. Do it all over the country, when possible. There is no alternative to bring order to the roads. According to the Road Safety Foundation, more motorcycles lead to more accidents, with dire consequences. It is therefore ‘absolutely imperative’ to discourage the use of motorcycles by making access to public transport services easy, affordable and improved, reducing traffic congestion.
Reckless motorcycle driving by minors and youngsters not only puts them in accidents, but also puts other vehicles at risk of accidents. Therefore, motorcycle traffic is prohibited on highways during Eid without a valid reason. Although this time it was not given. There is also an instruction not to ride the bikes of one district in other districts.
Some are also blaming the ignorance of the parents. Rich and middle-class families are giving away motorcycles on behalf of their children. Again motorcycle companies are also bringing speed competition forward in their advertisements.
Along with this, the motorcyclist and rider should take proper safety measures. To enjoy the fun of riding a motorcycle, you must first know how to ride. And the advanced braking system can avoid accidents. Improved safety equipment, including wearable helmets, can reduce the risk of death. It’s like
Road safety research shows that most drivers do not obey the rules when it comes to riding motorcycles on highways, regional roads and rural roads. The rule of not riding more than two people on a motorcycle is also not followed. Motorcycles often run without registration in the district-upazila. Most of them don’t even have training to ride a motorcycle. Skill comes next. In addition to reckless speed, many teenagers do not know how to drive on the highway. Motorcycles are not in the hands of incompetent teenagers to prevent accidents. And driving a motorcycle as a vehicle should be regulated.
The policy to regulate motorcycles was heard quite strongly last year. The road minister took this initiative. The objective is to reduce road accidents, safe use of motorcycles, encourage the use of low-risk motorcycles, increase the awareness of drivers – to create a policy for these. This time too, the policy has been urged to be finalized in the meeting before Eid.
The policy emphasizes speed-restriction rather than motorcycle regulation. Wearing helmets and other safety equipment is also recommended. Because the speed of the vehicle is not determined in the road transport laws and regulations.
Although road accidents are expected to decrease in the country with the progress of the communication sector in road construction, the death rate on the road is not decreasing comparatively at the end of the year. This is a cause for concern.
One hope is that if the policy is implemented and the road safety project of the World Bank is implemented – the combination of these two will reduce the number of accidents.
