‘After the accident, Taufiq said on the phone that I have pain in my legs and hands, I will be fine’

The eldest son was admitted to Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CHUET) by engineer father Delwar Hossain. He had many dreams about his son Taufiq.

But all dreams were shattered yesterday Monday in a road accident on Chittagong-Kaptai road.

Taufiq Hossain and Shanto Saha, second year students of Civil Engineering department of Chuet, were killed by the speeding bus.

After the funeral of Taufiq, who was killed in Noakhali Government College premises on Tuesday, he was buried in the family graveyard in Lakshminarayanpur Mohalla of the municipal area.

Apart from parents, there is another brother and a sister in the family. Going to their house in the afternoon, it is seen that everyone is stunned with grief.

Taufiq’s mother Tahera Akhter Sathi told The Daily Star in a tearful voice, ‘I spoke to Taufiq at 3:30 am after the accident. He said on the mobile phone, mother got pain in legs and hands, head is fine. I didn’t get a headache. i will be fine You don’t worry.’

“Later, the son died at around 5:30 pm while undergoing treatment,” the mother cried.

Taufiq’s father Delwar Hossain said, ‘He went to university from Maizdi last Saturday after the Eid holiday. Taufiq was a resident student of Bangabandhu Hall.

On Monday afternoon, three friends along with Taufiq went for a motorcycle ride in Jianagar area of ​​Rangunia Upazila of Chittagong. Taufiq and Shanto were injured when a speeding bus suddenly hit the motorcycle.

Later two died in Chittagong Evercare Hospital while undergoing treatment.

Another friend of theirs, Zakaria Himu, was injured in the accident and is undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Speaking during the funeral of Taufiq this morning, the father, Assistant Engineer of Noakhali Municipality, Delwar Hossain said, ‘I have three children. Two boys and one girl. I had a lot of dreams about my eldest son Taufiq. In 2019, he passed ASC with golden GPA-5 from Noakhali Zilla School and in 2021 he passed higher secondary with golden GPA-5 from St. Joseph’s College, Dhaka and got admission in Chuet.

Mayor of Noakhali Municipality and District Awami League General Secretary Shahid Uliah Khan Sohail along with municipal councillors, officials, employees, local residents and Taufiq’s classmates were present at the funeral.
