Mukhlesch Bhuiyan (25), a Chhatra League leader, has been recovered from his headless body after he was strangled to death in Kishoreganj. According to the confession given by the accused Mizan Sheikh, who was arrested in connection with the murder, the police recovered his melted body from Narsunda river adjacent to Gurdayal Government College in Kishoreganj on Tuesday afternoon.

Earlier, the lungi worn by Mukhlech, the key of the house and the dagger used in the murder were recovered. The body has been recovered but the head has not been found yet.

Mukhlesh is the son of Maqbul Hossain of Phulpur village of Kewarjor Union of Mithamain Upazila of Kishoreganj and joint general secretary of Kewarjor Union Chhatra League. He recently completed his graduation in Bengali from Kishoreganj Gurudayal Government College. After completing his studies, he was working as a peshkar’s assistant in Kishoreganj court.

According to the confession given by the accused Mizan, a rescue operation was carried out in the Narsunda river of Kishoreganj city for two days with the help of the diving team of the fire service. On Monday, the body was not found even though divers were deployed in the river all day. On Tuesday afternoon, the police recovered his body with a cement block tied to his body from the river. At that time, Superintendent of Police Mohammad Russell Sheikh and other senior police officers were present.

Mukhlech’s elder brother Mizanur Rahman said that on March 29, he went missing on his way back from Tarawi prayer at Pagla Mosque. A general diary was made at Sadar police station on March 31 without finding it after much searching. Meanwhile, Mokhlesh was seen with his friend Mizan Sheikh in the CCTV footage around the time of his disappearance, he said. Mizan’s house is also in Phulpur village of Mithamain.

He also said that the accused Mizan had taken a loan of Tk 120 thousand from Mukhlech about a year ago. Moreover, cases are going on between them on various issues. He thinks that Mizan might have killed Mukhlesh because of these issues.

The police arrested four people from Shaistaganj in Sylhet last Saturday in this incident. They are Mukhlech’s friend Mizan Sheikh (28) of Phulpur village in Mithamin, his two brothers Marjan Sheikh (26), Raihan Sheikh (21) and their father Seful Sheikh (65). During police interrogation, Mizan confessed to killing Mukhlesh and said that he threw the body in Narsunda river. Later, Mizan was searched at the place shown by him and the body was recovered. The body was sent to Shaheed Syed Nazrul Islam Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Superintendent of Police Mohammad Russell Sheikh said that Mukhlesh was killed on the night of March 29, tied to his body with a block and thrown into Narsunda river under the bridge. After Mukhlesh went missing, a GD was registered at the police station on March 31 and a case of kidnapping on April 16. After reviewing the CCTV footage, Mizan was arrested from Sylhet. The dagger with which the throat was cut was also recovered. The person who bought the dagger for Tk 230 also confessed. Mentioning that Mizan has also given information about those who completed the murder, the Superintendent of Police said that after reviewing these, further steps will be taken. The police officer also informed about the DNA test for more confirmation as the body was mutilated.
