At least 35 migrants have been reported dead in two accidents in Africa. It is known that 19 asylum seekers have died in the North African country of Tunisia. On the other hand, 16 people have died and 28 others are missing after a boat capsized off the coast of Djibouti.
The Tunisian Coast Guard said that the bodies of 19 people have been recovered so far. They were trying to go to Italy, a European country.
As a result, in the first four months of this year, about 200 migrants have died on the coast of Tunisia.
On the other hand, 28 people are missing in addition to the death of 16 people in the boat sinking off the coast of Djibouti. The boat with 77 passengers sank off the coast of Djibouti. This is the second accident there in two weeks.
According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the United Nations migration agency, the boat capsized occurred off the coast of Djibouti. There were 77 passengers including children in the boat. It is also reported that the rescue operation is going on there.

Such accidents often occur in the Red Sea region off the Jiburi coast. Earlier, on April 8, a boat carrying more than 60 migrants sank off the coast of Gadoria in Djibouti. 38 people including children died in this accident. Six people are still missing. The boat was heading from Ethiopia to Yemen.
In 2023, at least 8,565 migrants died on various routes around the world, which is the highest in the last decade.
The number of immigrant deaths increased by 20 percent in 2023 compared to 2022.
Every year, thousands of African migrants try to cross the Red Sea to Saudi Arabia due to war, natural disasters and the hope of a better life. Many died in the boat sinking.
