criminal Prosecutors have sought punishment for former US President Donald Trump for violating court orders in the bribery case. On Tuesday (April 23), the judge overseeing the case demanded that Trump be fined $10,000. The court issued the order to prevent Trump from criticizing witnesses and others involved in the case. British news agency Reuters reported this news.

Trump was present in court during the trial. Then New York prosecutor Christopher Conroy referred to the former president’s posts on the social media site Truth. In those posts, Trump talked about the bribery case. Conroy said these were violations of “gag orders” or court orders.

“The defendant has repeatedly breached this order and he has not stopped,” Conroy told Justice Juan Marchan. The court should hold him guilty of contempt now.’

Conroy pointed to an April 10 post by Trump in court. The post called porn star Stormy Daniels and her former lawyer Michael Cohen ‘sleazebags’ or ‘disreputable’ people. Both are expected to testify in the case.

Conroy said Trump’s other posts also revealed many things outside of the court order. “He knows exactly what he’s not allowed to do and he does it anyway,” Conroy told the court. At this time, this prosecutor insisted, ‘His disobedience to this order is deliberate. It’s on purpose.’

Prosecutors have requested that Trump be fined $10,000 for each violation of the court order.

Prosecutors also asked Judge Marchan to remind Trump that the former president could face more serious consequences if he violates the order.

Disobeying a court order is punishable by up to 30 days in prison in the United States. If found guilty, the judge could order Trump to be jailed for 30 days.

The judge’s gag order prevents Trump from publicly criticizing witnesses, court officials and their relatives. However, Trump has said that this order is a violation of his constitutional right to free speech.
