A person has been sentenced to life imprisonment for killing a child in Dinajpur

Dinajpur, 23 April 2024 (BSS): In the case of murder of child Miraj Kazi (05) in the district today, a person named Mumtaz Uddin has been sentenced to life imprisonment and a fine of 25 thousand rupees. The court acquitted the other three accused in the verdict.
This decision was announced by Additional District and Sessions Judge-2 Shyam Sundar Roy Court of Dinajpur at 3:30 pm on Tuesday.
Accused Momtaz Uddin along with the accused were present in the court when the verdict was announced. The other three accused in the case, Mostafizur Rahman, Morjina Begum and Jasmine Ara Ruby, have been acquitted.
On Tuesday Dinajpur Court Police Inspector AKM Liaquat Ali confirmed this information to reporters.
AP Mostafizur Rahman was the lawyer for the plaintiff in this case. Advocate Deval Chandra Sarkar conducted the case on behalf of the accused.
According to the source of the case, on the afternoon of July 8, 2018, five-year-old child Miraj Kazi went out of the house and started searching for her in Phulbari upazila of the district. At one point, the body of baby Miraj was recovered from the boat shown by the accused, Mumtaz Uddin, on the morning of July 9. When the matter was reported to the Phulbari police station, the police arrested the accused Mumtaz Uddin and took him to the police station. In this incident, on July 9, 2018, at 11 o’clock, Mahbubur Rahman Kazi, the father of child Miraj Kazi, filed a murder case against four people including the main accused, Mumtaz Uddin, as the plaintiff in Phulbari police station.
After presenting evidence and hearing, Judge Dinajpur Additional District and Sessions Judge-2 Shyam Sundar Roy announced the verdict in this case today. The judge convicted the accused Mumtaz Uddin and sentenced him to life imprisonment and a fine of 25,000 taka, in default of payment of another six months imprisonment. The court acquitted the other three accused in the verdict.
