Cox’s Bazar: A woman named Jamila Begum (35) died after being attacked by a wild elephant while collecting wood in Fansiakhali Wildlife Sanctuary of Cox’s Bazar North Forest Division.

This incident happened on Tuesday (April 23) at 12:30 pm.

Jamila Chakaria is the wife of Shah Alam of village Ringbong Chagirshahkata, Ward No. 1, Dulahajara Union.

Fansiakhali Range Officer Mehraj Uddin told BanglaNews that any person is prohibited from entering the Fansiakhali Wildlife Sanctuary in Chakria without permission. Warning signboards are hung at several places warning that anyone who enters there may be attacked by wild animals. Several awareness meetings have also been conducted. Even then, men and women of various ages enter to steal trees or collect wood without permission. Although there are occasional casualties due to wild animal attacks, human access to the sanctuary is not being stopped.

He said that Jamila, a housewife of a poor family, went to the wildlife sanctuary to collect wood on Tuesday. He died after being attacked by a rogue elephant around 12:30 noon. Jamila’s body was taken home by her relatives. In addition to the general diary (GD) in the police station, the higher authorities have been informed in writing.
