The price of tea at the land office is 500 rupees!

A video of union land assistant officer Rezaul Karim accepting bribe in Thakurgaon’s Ranishankoil has gone viral on social media. Accused claims that he was given this money for tea.

It is known that last Sunday (April 21) a person went to Dharmagarh-Kashipur Union land office of Ranishankoil upazila to pay 10 taka as rent. At that time, the concerned land officer Rezaul Karim took 500 taka instead of 10 taka. This video of money transaction spread in the social media. Earlier, on September 22, 2022, another video of the official’s money transaction went viral.

Rezaul Karim said that 10 taka rent is not a big deal. He gave me 500 rupees for tea. Landlords don’t have mobile banking numbers, so they give me money. I pay cash.

According to land office sources, earlier that land officer has caused damage to government interests by collecting land development tax of 20 acres of abandoned property registered in 525/1 of holding number 134 of Bhadeswari Mauza. The then Assistant Commissioner (Lands) Indrajit Saha issued a show cause notice to the land officer in memorandum number 495 on 14 August 2022.

Upazila Executive Officer Assistant Commissioner (Land) Rakibul Hasan said, I have spoken to the higher authorities about the viral video. Departmental action will be taken against the concerned officer.
