The court ordered death penalty to a colored mason for killing a physically challenged woman in Chandina Upazila of Comilla. Comilla Additional District and Sessions Judge First Court Judge Afroza Shiuli announced the verdict on Tuesday afternoon.

Md Mukbul Hossain, who was sentenced to death, is a resident of Ranicha (Nayakandi) village of Chandina upazila. On the evening of August 11, 2015, Gulshan Ara, a disabled woman, went missing while fetching tea. Later his body was found in the Dhincha field of the house next door.

Investigation revealed that Gulshan Ara had an illicit relationship with Md Mukbul Hossain and after getting pregnant, she rejected the offer of marriage. Later, Gulshan took Ara to the eastern side of his house and killed him.

Md Sharif, the plaintiff in the case, said that his daughter Gulshan Ara along with his four sisters and one brother were disabled from birth. He expressed satisfaction with the verdict and hoped the High Court would uphold the verdict.

In this case, additional PP advocate for the state, Md. Niamat Ullah Chowdhury (Zaman), said that he hopes the high court will implement this verdict quickly.

The execution of the death sentence is directed to be carried out subject to the approval of the High Court Division. The convicted accused is currently in jail.
