24 karat: 24 karat means 100 percent pure gold. No other metals are added. In the local market, 99.9 percent is said to be pure. 24 carat gold color bright yellow. Costs more than 18 or 22 carats. However, being soft and malleable, it is not used in regular jewelry making. Bars and coins are mainly made of 24 carat gold. It is also used in making electronics and medical equipment.
22 carat gold: Most jewelery is made with 22 carat gold. Besides gold it contains silver, nickel, zinc and other alloys. 22 carat means 91.67 percent pure gold. Other metals harden the texture of gold, so the jewelry is durable.
18 carat: 18 carat contains 75 percent gold. The remaining 25 percent is made up of copper, silver and other alloys. Stone studded jewelry or diamond jewelry is made with 18 carat gold. It costs less than 24 carat or 22 carat gold.
