Dinajpur: The court sentenced an old man named Mumtaz Uddin to life imprisonment in the sensational murder case of five-year-old child Miraj of Dinajpur’s Phulbari. Convicted accused Mumtaz Uddin was sentenced to life imprisonment and ordered to undergo 6 months imprisonment in default of payment of Tk 25,000 fine.
Besides, three others were acquitted in the same case as they were not found guilty.
Dinajpur Additional Sessions Judge-2 Judge Shyamsunder Roy gave the verdict on Tuesday (April 23) afternoon.
Accused Mumtaz Uddin is the son of deceased Mir Uddin of Paschim Khajapur village of Fulbari Upazila. The deceased child Miraj Kazi is the son of Mahabub Kazi of the same village.
Those acquitted are – Momtaz Uddin’s sister Morjina Begum, son Mostafizur Rahman and son’s wife Jasmine Ara.
Dinajpur Kot Police Inspector AKM Liaquat Ali confirmed this information.
According to court sources, on July 8, 2018, the child Miraj Kazi went to play at the house of neighbor Mumtaz Uddin. After that the child was missing. The next day on July 9, the body of baby Miraj was recovered from a pond in the area. On July 9, Mahbub, the father of the slain child, filed a murder case at Phulbari police station accusing four people as the plaintiff.
