In Pirojpur, a young man named Sohag Sheikh was hacked to death by cutting his arms and legs with sharp weapons due to previous enmity.
The incident took place at Bhairampur village of Kadamtala Union of Pirojpur Sadar Upazila around 10:30 PM on Monday (April 22).
This was confirmed by local UP member Mizan Howladar.
Mizan Howladar said that the deceased Sohag Sheikh (33) is the son of Siddique Sheikh of Bhairampur village of Kadamtala Union of Pirojpur Sadar Upazila. He was the main accused in the murder case of a person named Shahidul.
Sohag’s brother Sipan Sheikh said that on Monday night, his brother Sohag Sheikh was taken out in front of the house. Later, near the mosque of Matubbar’s house, some Sohags including local Shamsu and Imam were hacked to death with sharp weapons and escaped. At this time, they cut off Sohag’s hands and feet from his body. Even before the start, the opponents had threatened to kill his brother several times.
He also said that Sohag and his family had a dispute with one party over the dominance of the area. A man named Shahidul was murdered after the last UP elections. His brother was made the prime accused in that case. A few days ago, Sohag was released from jail on bail in that case.
Local UP member Mizan Howladar said, “Sohag was found dead after being dumped. Sohag’s sister-in-law Samsur Rahman was nearby during the incident. He saw who did it. Some people had enmity with the Sohags for dominance in the area. A person named Shahidul was also murdered after the last UP elections. Sohag was number one accused in that case.”
The officer-in-charge (OC) of Pirojpur Sadar police station confirmed the murder. Asikuzzaman said that it was initially known that this killing happened due to previous enmity. An operation is underway to arrest those involved in the incident. Besides, the body has been recovered and sent for post-mortem and legal action is under process.
Regarding this, Additional Superintendent of Police (promoted Superintendent of Police) Sheikh Mostafizur Rahman said, “He was killed in a planned manner due to previous enmity with the family of Sohag Sheikh over land. A case is pending in this regard. An operation is underway to arrest those involved in the incident.”
