There are several reasons for choosing April 23 as Book Day. April 23 is the death anniversary of three legends of the literary world: William Shakespeare, Miguel de Tervantes and Inca Garcilaso de Vega.
In 1995, the UNESCO General Session in Paris chose this day to be celebrated as Book Day. Paying homage to the memory of these three late writers is the main reason for choosing this day.
