Old man sentenced to life imprisonment in Dinajpur child murder case

The judge has ordered the life imprisonment of an old man named Mumtaz Uddin in the sensational murder case of five-year-old child Miraj of Dinajpur’s Phulbari. The other three were acquitted as they were not found guilty in this case.

Dinajpur Additional Sessions Judge-2 Judge Shyamsunder Roy delivered the verdict on Tuesday (April 23) afternoon. The judge sentenced convicted accused Mumtaz Uddin to 6 months imprisonment without paying a fine of 25,000 taka besides life imprisonment.

Accused Mumtaz Uddin is the son of deceased Mir Uddin of Paschim Khajapur village of Fulbari Upazila. The deceased child Miraj Kazi is the son of Mahabub Kazi of the same village.

Those acquitted are – Momtaz Uddin’s sister Morjina Begum, son Mostafizur Rahman and son’s wife Jasmine Ara.

Dinajpur Kot Police Inspector AKM Liaquat Ali confirmed this.

According to court sources, on July 8, 2018, the child Miraj Kazi went to play at the house of neighbor Mumtaz Uddin. After that the child was missing. The next day on July 9, the body of baby Miraj was recovered from a pond in the area. On July 9, Mahbub, the father of the slain child, filed a murder case at Phulbari police station accusing four people as the plaintiff.
