A young man named Sohag Sheikh was hacked to death by the opponents due to past enmity in Pirojpur Sadar. The incident took place at Bhairampur village of Kadamtala union of the upazila around 10:30 pm on Monday (April 22).
The deceased Sohag Sheikh is the son of Siddique Sheikh of Bhairampur village of Kadamtala Union.
Pirojpur Sadar Police Station OC Mohammad Asikuzzaman confirmed the matter yesterday.
Locals said that a person named Shahidul was killed after the last Union Parishad election. Sohag Sheikh was the main accused in that case. Sohag and Shahidul’s family had a dispute over this. It is believed that the murder may have happened because of that dispute.
The deceased’s nephew Shamsur Rahman said, at night, I saw my uncle Sohag in the garden near the house near the mosque, along with local Shamsu and Imam. When they screamed at this time, they left leaving the uncle seriously injured.
Local UP member Mizan Howladar said, Sohag died before we reached the spot. Shamsur Rahman, son of Sohag’s brother, was nearby during the incident. He saw who did it. Some people had enmity with the Sohags for dominance in the area. A person named Shahidul was also murdered after the last UP elections. They made Sohag the number one accused in that case.
OC Mohammad Asikuzzaman said, we recovered the dead body from the spot and sent it to the morgue. Initially, it is believed that this killing may have happened due to previous enmity. The case is being prepared in this regard. We have started an investigation to find out the cause of the murder.
