Opponents killed a young man named Sohag Sheikh (33) in Pirojpur with a sharp weapon. The incident took place at Bhairampur village of Kadamtala Union of Pirojpur Sadar Upazila around 10:30 PM on Monday.
The deceased Sohag is the son of Siddique Sheikh of village Bhairampur of Kadamtala Union of Pirojpur Sadar Upazila.
Sipan Sheikh, the brother of the deceased, said that his brother Sohag Sheikh was taken out in front of the house by calling from the house at night. Later, some locals including Shamsu and Imam, sitting in front of the house near the mosque of Matubbar’s house, cut Sohag with sharp weapons, severed his arms and legs from his body and ran away. Even before this, the opponents had threatened to kill the brother several times.
Sipan Sheikh also said that Sohag and his family had a dispute with one party over the dominance of the area. A man named Shahidul was murdered after the last UP elections. The main accused in that case was the deceased Sohag Sheikh. Four months ago, Sohag was released from jail on bail in the case. He claimed that his brother Sohag Sheikh was killed in a planned manner due to that previous enmity.
Additional Superintendent of Police of Pirojpur Mukit Hasan Khan said that it is initially believed that the murder happened due to previous enmity. An operation is underway to arrest those involved in the incident. Besides, the body has been recovered and sent for post-mortem. Legal action is under process in this regard.
