Bangladesh Railway has stated that the reason for the collision of two trains at Bhairab is that the freight train did not obey the signal.

The collision took place between an inter-city Egarsindur Express train and a freight train at around 3:30 pm on Monday.

It is said that at least 20 people have been killed in this accident till the last news.

When asked about the accident, Acting General Manager (East) of Bangladesh Railway Nazmul Islam told The Daily Star, “Initial investigation revealed that the freight train did not obey the signal and the collision took place.”

However, he could not give details about this.

According to local sources, the number of casualties in this accident is more.

Siraj-ud-Daula, senior information officer of the Ministry of Railways, told the Daily Star that the accident took place outside the station immediately after the Egarsindur twilight train left Bhairab railway station for Dhaka.

At that time, two coaches of Egarsindur Express overturned with passengers due to the impact of the freight train.

After the accident, the police, fire service are continuing rescue operations. Fire Service Control Room Duty Officer Jeevan Mia told Daily Star that 7 fire service units are working at the scene.

Train movement on Dhaka-Chittagong route has been stopped after this accident.
