Air pollution is increasing day by day in different countries of the world due to various reasons including climate change. Air pollution in megacity Dhaka has been increasing for a long time. The city’s air remains a health risk for sensitive groups on Tuesday (April 23) morning. But the biggest health risk is in the air of Delhi, India.

At 11.15 am this morning, according to the criteria of the international air technology organization IQAir, the capital Dhaka is at the 11th position in the list of the world’s most polluted cities with a score of 107, which is considered unhealthy for sensitive groups.

Delhi topped the list of most polluted cities with a score of 167. Qatar’s Doha city in second place has a score of 164. Kathmandu city of Nepal is in the third position with 162 score. At fourth is Manama, Bahrain, with a city score of 157. Ranked fifth in the list is Chiang Mai, Thailand with a score of 156.

An AQI score of 100 to 200 is considered ‘unhealthy’; Especially for sensitive groups. Similarly, an AQI score of 201 to 300 is considered an emergency with health warnings. In this situation, children, elderly and sick patients are advised to limit their activities indoors and others outside the home.

An AQI score of 301 to 400, on the other hand, is considered ‘hazardous’, posing a serious health risk to residents.

AQI in Bangladesh is determined based on five types of pollution; Such as particulate matter (PM10 and PM2.5), NO2, CO, SO2 and ozone (O3).
