Faridpur rumour-mongering murder: In the viral video

Faridpur: A video of the moment two juvenile construction workers were beaten to death and a few others were injured after rumors of setting fire to a temple in Panchpalli of Dumain Union in Madhukhali Upazila of Faridpur has gone viral on social media. The video clip also shows who took part in the murder.

A video leaked on Sunday (April 21) afternoon shows a frenzied mob shouting and screaming outside a room of the Panchapally Government Primary School. Inside, another group of people are brutally beating and torturing the workers. The workers started screaming and shouting at the relentless beatings.

Ujjwal, Sufal, Sukumar, Rajkumar, Sadhan, Vikas, Sujeet, Manik and others of that village were seen participating in the torture in the video.

Another video showed construction workers being interrogated with their backs wrapped. Dumain Union Parishad Chairman Asaduzzaman Tapan and local UP Member Ajit Kumar Sarkar are also seen in the video.

However, when the incident went out of control, UP Chairman Tapan called the police on his mobile phone and reported the matter to Madukhali police station.

On April 18, around 7:30 pm, two teenagers brothers Ashraful Khan (17) and Arshadul Khan (15) were killed by beating them with bamboo, sticks and rods and crushing them with bricks on suspicion of setting fire to the Kali temple in Panchpalli, Dumain, Madhukhali. Five others were seriously injured.

First on that day, Sub-Inspector (SI) Nani Gopal of Madhukhali police station and a constable came to the spot after getting the information. The attackers also beat two policemen and sent them back seriously injured. Soon after, Madukhali Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mamnoon Ahmed Anik and Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Miraj Hossain went to the spot. The attackers kept UNO and OC blocked there for several hours.

After that Faridpur Deputy Commissioner Kamrul Ahsan Talukder and Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohammad Morshed Alam rushed to the spot. Later, additional police and RAB from Faridpur and Rajbari went and rescued them after trying for about five hours. At that time, the attackers started throwing bricks at the police. Police fired 175 blank rounds to bring the situation under control.

After that incident, three cases have been filed in the local police station alleging that there was a fire in the temple, killing of construction workers and obstructing government work. So far law enforcement forces have arrested some of them. However, the police did not disclose the names of the detainees for the purpose of investigating the incident.

Two days after the incident, on April 20, the Minister of Religion Md. Faridul Haque Khan went to the house of the deceased and consoled the relatives and visited the spot in Panchapally. Additional District Magistrate in this incident. A three-member committee headed by Ali Siddiqui is investigating.

A police official declined to comment on the leaked video. They said that extensive activities are being carried out to investigate the incident.
