Recently, there was an allegation of ragging, undressing and physically torturing a young student with a rod in the common room of Lalon Shah Hall of the Islamic University (EB).

In this incident, the administration and the hall administration formed two separate investigation committees. Both the committees have got the direct involvement of the accused 3 students. Two of them had high level of torture. As a result, their rules recommended the maximum penalty and a warning to a student with less involvement. Later, the authority will take a final decision against them subject to discussion in the student-discipline committee meeting.

The two serious accused in the incident are Mudachir Khan Kafi of Physical Education and Sports Science Department and Mohammad Sagar of Islamic History and Culture Department. Besides, a person named Ujjwal Hossain of the History Department was also involved. They are all students of 2021-22 academic year. The victim is a 2022-23 academic year student of Al-Fiqh and Legal Studies Department of the university.

According to the sources of the investigation committee, on February 7, a student was stripped and ragged in the common room (room no. 136) of EB Lalon Shah Hall. If he did not listen, he was beaten with an iron rod. At one point, the torturers forced the victim to make obscene gestures while watching pornography.

Meanwhile, the interviewed students told the inquiry committee that ragging often happens in that room. Also, the 14-page report of the committee formed by the administration has attached various facts.

The convener of the investigation committee formed by the authorities. Altaf Hossain said, “Monday’s investigation report has been submitted to the Provost. We got the facts. The authorities have been recommended to punish as per rules.’

Lalon Shah Hall Provost Prof. Dr. Akhtar Hossain said, ‘We found the truth of the incident in the report of the investigation committee. We have sent the inquiry report to the university administration recommending punishment for those involved. The university administration will take their action as per the rules.

The convener of the investigation committee formed by the administration Professor Dr. Debashish Sharma said, ‘We have completed the investigation process before Eid. I got the truth of the incident. We have recommended punishment as per rules along with the administration in respect of those involved.’
