Birth of Max Planck, Death of Satyajit Ray

--

A child was born on April 23, 1858 to Johann Julius Wilhelm Plank, a professor at the Law Department of the University of Kiel, Germany, and Emma Patzig. Named Karl Ernst Ludwig Marx Planck. At the age of 10, the boy began to write his name Marx (Marx) a little shortened to Max (Max). Because this spell seemed easy to him. He used this name for the rest of his life: Max Planck.

Apart from science, Planck’s favorite subjects at school were music and linguistics. At the age of 16, young Planck was attracted to opera houses and concert halls, rather than hanging out in Munich’s taverns like everyone else. Because he became very proficient in playing the piano, organ and cello.

In October 1874, he entered the mathematics department at the University of Munich, one of the most famous educational institutions in Germany, to achieve this goal. Planck was not interested in new discoveries. He only wanted to understand better and deeper what had been discovered so far. To satisfy that thirst, he was busy studying most of the time. While learning new subjects of physics, he also learned to think about things in a new way. During this time he learned about the theories of physics in detail, especially thermodynamics.

The first three years at the University of Munich taught mathematics and laboratory physics by hand. Because there were no theoretical physics classes then. While studying at the University of Munich, he did experimental research for the first and last time in his life under Jolly’s supervision. It was an experiment on the nature of diffusion of hydrogen gas in the presence of heated platinum. After that, he did not come close to any experimental test, he dedicated his life to theoretical research.

While doing theoretical research, he suddenly gave birth to a new physics in 1900. That is quantum theory. He had no desire to leave classical physics and give birth to this new realm of science. But he had nothing more to do in solving the problem of blackbody radiation. He is called an unwilling revolutionary because of his revolution against his will.
