An expatriate student died tragically after falling into the water while boarding a launch with his friends at Bhairab in Kishoreganj.
The incident took place at Bhairab Bazar launch terminal around 8:30 pm on Monday. The name of the deceased student is Al Islam (30). He is the son of Haji Alauddin, director of Bhairav Chamber of Commerce and Industry. His house is in Chandib village of the city. A year and a half ago, he went to Germany to study with a scholarship. He comes home on leave before Eid.
After receiving information about this incident, Bhairab Naval Police Unit and Fire Service personnel took Al Islam to Upazila Health Complex in a comatose condition after 40 minutes of rescue operation. Later the doctor on duty declared him dead.
Relatives said that Al Islam went to Germany to study with a scholarship a year and a half ago. On April 8, he came home from Germany on holiday to celebrate Eid with his family. On Monday night, he went to board the launch while hanging out with his friends at the launch ghat on the bank of the river. At that time, he slipped and fell into the river. After informing the naval police, after trying for half an hour, the doctor declared him dead when he was rescued from drowning and brought to the hospital.
On the news of the tragic death of sports hall worker Al Islam, his family, relatives and close friends fell in mourning in the area.
Rafiqul Islam, Deputy Inspector of Bhairab Naval Police Unit, said that the young man was rescued and taken to the hospital after 40 minutes of rescue operation by local divers who went to the spot after receiving the information at 8:40 PM and the doctor declared him dead.
