Taiwan was once again shaken by earthquakes. These tremors were felt from Monday night to Tuesday morning local time. The most intense of these earthquakes originated in eastern Hualien. Its intensity was 6.3 on the Richter scale.

The country’s Central Meteorological Administration said the first earthquake that struck at 5:08 p.m. local time on Monday had a magnitude of 5.5 on the Richter scale. The tremors were also felt in the capital, Taipei. After that the vibration started to be felt from time to time. The two earthquakes that struck on Tuesday were particularly intense. The intensity of the first was 6.0 and the second was 6.3 on the Richter scale. Earlier on April 3, a strong earthquake shook the east coast of Taiwan. At least 17 people died. There was extensive damage to infrastructure. The magnitude of this intense earthquake was 7.4. The epicenter was 18 km south of Hualien city.

It was the strongest earthquake in Taiwan in 25 years. Earlier in September 1999, an earthquake of magnitude 7.6 hit Taiwan. About 2 thousand 400 people died.

Meanwhile, after this new earthquake, the firefighting team has been sent to the scene to assess the damage.

No one was injured, they said in a statement.

Being located at the intersection of two tectonic plates, Taiwan is frequently hit by earthquakes.
