Iran fired more than 300 drones and missiles at Israel after the Israeli airstrike on the Iranian consulate in Syria. In response, Israel wanted to launch a large-scale attack on the country last Friday. The attack was also planned on a military base near Tehran, the capital of Iran. But later the Israeli government withdrew from that decision.

The New York Times reported this information about three Israeli officials. According to their report, Israel canceled the decision to launch a major attack on Iran due to diplomatic pressure from various allies including the United States. Iran’s interception of almost all missiles and drones aimed at Israeli territory also served as a factor in not launching a massive attack.

Israel’s Western allies did not want a full-scale war in the Middle East, according to reports from Israeli officials.

Israeli and Western officials told the New York Times that Israeli warplanes fired “a small number of missiles” from hundreds of kilometers west of Iran on Friday. Apart from this, attack drones known as ‘quadcopters’ were also launched to disrupt Iran’s air defense system. One of the missiles fired from the warplane hit an anti-aircraft air defense system in Iran. After learning that the first missile had hit its target, the Israeli forces shot down a second missile mid-air. The move was aimed at avoiding excessive damage.

The report also said that Israel initially wanted to attack Iran on April 15. The decision was later overturned amid fears that it could lead to a “significant increase in attacks” by the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah in northern Israel. However, it was not reported whether there were similar fears in the case of Friday’s attack.

Israel, however, has not officially claimed responsibility for Friday’s attack. However, several officials of the country have confirmed that the attack was carried out by Israel. After this attack, Tehran did not say much. They did not even directly blame Israel for the attack. As a result, the risk of the Middle East region moving towards further crisis is greatly reduced.
