The symbols will be allocated in the first phase of the Sixth Upazila Parishad elections on Tuesday (April 23). Candidates can campaign after receiving the symbol.
Election Commission (EC) Deputy Secretary of Election Management Branch. Atiyar Rahman said, according to the schedule of the first phase, the appeal was settled on Sunday. The deadline for withdrawal of candidature was Monday (April 22). After selection of nomination papers, the number of valid candidates is now 1 thousand 786. Symbols will be allotted among these candidates today. Candidates can campaign with the symbol. Voting in 150 upazilas will be held on May 8.
Meanwhile, 2 thousand 55 candidates have filed nomination papers to fight in the second phase of the election. Among them, 730 people have submitted nomination papers for the post of chairman. And 763 people have submitted nomination papers for the post of vice chairman and 562 people for the post of female vice chairman.
According to the schedule for the second phase, the last date for filing nomination papers was Sunday. Today (April 23) nomination papers will be selected. Apart from this, appeals are accepted from 24 to 26 April, disposal of appeals from 27 to 29 April. Last date for withdrawal of candidature is 30th April. The symbol for this step will be allotted on May 2. Voting in 161 upazilas will be held on May 21.
Additional District Commissioners have been appointed as Returning Officers and Upazila Nirbahi Officers as Assistant Returning Officers in this round of elections. Apart from this, where the number of voters is more than 5 lakh, more than one Assistant Returning Officer will be deployed.
District Election Officers and Upazila Election Officers have been appointed as Assistant Returning Officers in this round of elections. The appellate authority is the District Commissioner.
As per the phase III schedule, the last date for submission of nomination form is May 2 and nomination scrutiny is May 5. Appeal against Returning Officer’s decision May 6-8. Appeal disposal May 9-11. Last date for withdrawal of candidature is 12 May. Allotment of symbols among the contending candidates is on May 13 and voting is on May 29. In this phase, polling will be held in 112 upazilas of 47 districts.
Additional District and Additional Regional Election Officers and Additional District Commissioners have been appointed as Returning Officers in this phase. Appeals against the decision of the Returning Officers will be disposed of by the Deputy Commissioner.
Apart from this, the fourth phase of elections may be held on June 5. For this purpose, EC said that the commission meeting will be held at 3 pm today.
