Taiwan has been shaken by more than 80 earthquakes

The East Asian country of Taiwan has been hit by more than 80 earthquakes in a few hours. The strongest of these tremors was magnitude 6.3.

Tremors were felt along the east coast of the country from Monday night (April 22) local time to Tuesday morning. News from Reuters.

The buildings of the capital Taipei were also shaken by these earthquakes that hit one after the other.

Taiwan’s Meteorological Administration said the remote eastern county of Hualien was the epicenter of the quakes. Earlier this month, at least 14 people were killed in a 7.2-magnitude earthquake in the same area.

The Hualien Fire Department said early Tuesday that a hotel damaged by the April 3 earthquake was further damaged and leaning. However, no casualty was reported. Because it was closed due to earthquake damage a few days ago.

Earlier, in 2016, a powerful earthquake in southern Taiwan killed hundreds of people. Before that, in 1999, more than two thousand people died in an earthquake of magnitude 7.3 on this island. Being located near the intersection of two tectonic plates, Taiwan is naturally very earthquake prone.
