Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s meeting with Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Sani who is visiting Dhaka today. The meeting will be held at Shimul Hall of the Prime Minister’s office at 10:30 am. Agreements and Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) are expected to be signed between the two countries after the meeting.

President Md. The Emir of Qatar arrived in Dhaka on Monday afternoon on a two-day visit at the invitation of Sahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. He arrived at Dhaka’s Shahjalal International Airport with his tour companions at five in the afternoon.

This is the first high-level visit from any Middle Eastern country after the formation of the new government of Awami League led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina this year.

Bangladesh is giving special importance to Amir’s visit to Dhaka. He was given a red carpet welcome at the airport. President Sahabuddin welcomed Amir with a bouquet of flowers. Amir’s landing at the airport was fired 21 times.

According to diplomatic sources, six agreements and five memorandums of understanding (MoUs) are expected to be signed between Qatar and Bangladesh during the visit. The agreements are – avoidance of duplication, cooperation in legal matters, maritime transport, promotion and protection of investments, transfer of convicted persons and establishment of joint business councils.

The MoUs include – MoUs on Manpower, Port Management, Higher Education and Scientific Research, Youth and Sports Cooperation and Diplomatic Training Cooperation.

Minister of Foreign Affairs in a press conference on Sunday. Hasan Mahmood said that the visit of Emir of Qatar is very important for ensuring energy security. He also mentioned that Qatar can be a potential source of investment for Bangladesh.

Qatar is one of the Muslim countries that recognized Bangladesh in 1974 during Bangabandhu’s government. Bilateral relations between the two countries have reached a strong position through the Prime Minister’s visit to Qatar twice in March and May 2023. This is the continuation of the visit of the Emir of Qatar.

It is known that as a sign of friendship between Bangladesh and Qatar, the process of naming the park to be built in Balur field in Kalshi area of ​​Mirpur under Dhaka North City Corporation and the road from Mirpur ECB square to Kalshi Udal Bridge is going on after Amir. DNCC sources said that the Emir of Qatar will inaugurate these two facilities at 3 pm today. Earlier in the afternoon, President Sahabuddin will host a midday banquet in honor of the Emir of Qatar at the Durbar Hall of Bangabhavan.

Amir is scheduled to leave for Qatar in a special flight in the evening. The Foreign Minister of Bangladesh will see him off at the airport.
