A laborer named Azizul Islam (30) died after he fell under the soil while digging the foundation of a mosque in Dinajpur’s Nawabganj. Several workers were injured in the incident.
The accident took place at Bhaduria Bazar area of the upazila around 2.30 pm on Monday (April 22). Officer-in-charge of Nawabganj Fire Service Moslem Uddin confirmed the matter.
Deceased Azizul Islam is the son of Abdul Azad of Naleya village in Mahmudpur union of Nawabganj upazila.
Moslem Uddin, officer-in-charge of Nawabganj Fire Service, quoting locals, said that some workers were digging the foundation of a mosque in Bhaduria Bazar in the afternoon. At this time, the ground suddenly collapsed from above and some workers were buried. Locals rescued them in a critical condition and took them to Nawabganj Upazila Health Complex, where the duty doctor declared Azizul Islam dead. Other workers were discharged with first aid.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Nawabganj Police Station Tawhidul Islam said that a laborer died after being crushed by soil while digging the foundation of the mosque. The body was handed over without post-mortem as there was no complaint from the worker’s family.
