Two children drowned while bathing in a pond near their house in Chandnaish of Chittagong.

The accident took place in the pond of Basu Majhi’s house in Ward No. 4 Harla village of Chandanish Municipality of Upazila around 1 pm on Monday (April 22).

Chandanish Police Station OC (Investigation) Yujutsu Yash Chakma confirmed the death of two children.

The dead children are two girlfriends. One of them is Jannatul Mawa Mimpa (9). He said in Harla village. Daughter of Belal Uddin. The name of the other child is Nusrat Jahan Faria Mimpa (8). She is the daughter of Zakir Hossain of the same village. The death of two children has cast a shadow of mourning in the area.

Jannatul Mawa, a Class 3 student of Harla Cooperative Government Primary School and Nusrat Jahan, a Class 1 student of West Harla Government Primary School, were among the dead.

Relatives of the dead children said that between 12.30 and 1.00 pm on Monday, children Jannatul Mawa Mimpa and Nusrat Jahan drowned while bathing in the pond near their house.

Later, as they were late to return, when they looked for them, the relatives saw the bodies of two children floating in the water in the pond next to the house. At that time, when they started screaming, the locals came and rescued the child’s body from the pond and took it to Chandanish Upazila Health Complex. Then the doctor declared them dead.

Priyanka Chowdhury, the doctor on duty of Chandanish Upazila Health Complex, said that the two children died before being brought to the health complex.

Chandanish Police Station OC (Investigation) Yujutsu Yash Chakma confirmed the death of two children by drowning and said that no one has filed a complaint yet. However, action will be taken if complaints are received.
