A severe heatwave is sweeping across the country including the capital Dhaka. People are getting sick because of it, people’s lives are getting disrupted. Two deaths have already been reported in Chuadanga and one in Pabna due to extreme heat. However, it was not immediately confirmed whether they died of ‘heatstroke’.

Zakir went to irrigate paddy this Saturday morning. He fell ill due to intense heat. Later, when he was rescued and taken to the hospital, the doctors declared him dead.

On the other hand, Morjina Khatun fell ill at her home due to excessive heat around 3 pm. Later, when he was taken to Damurhuda Upazila Health Complex, the doctors declared him dead.

Damurhuda Upazila Health Officer Helena Akhter Nipa told The Daily Star, ‘Zakir and Morjina were brought to the hospital due to stroke. But they died before that.’

Our Pabna correspondent said that Sukumar Das died in Shalgaria area of ​​Pabna city.

Quoting the locals, he said that around 12:30 noon today, he was sitting and eating tea in a shop in Rupkatha Road area. He was taken to Pabna General Hospital when he suddenly fell ill due to intense heat. Later doctors declared him dead.

Pabna General Hospital Assistant Director Rafiqul Hasan told Daily Star, ‘Sukumar Das died before being brought to the hospital. Preliminary tests suggest that he had a cardiac arrest.’

Asked if Sukumar Das suffered from heatstroke, he said, ‘We cannot say that. Because we did not get any chance to treat Sukumar Das.’

Our Chuadanga correspondent also informed that the continuous intense heat in Chuadanga and Meherpur region has turned into very intense heat. The temperature has fluctuated between 40 and 41 degrees Celsius in the last few days, but the mercury has risen to 42 degrees in the room. The highest temperature in the country has been recorded for four consecutive days in this region.

The maximum temperature recorded in Chuadanga at 3 pm today was 42.3 degrees Celsius. The Chuadanga Meteorological Office claims that this is the highest temperature in the district this season.

As the day progresses, the intensity of the sun increases, and the heat does not decrease even as the day progresses. As there is not much difference between day and night temperature, people’s life here has become miserable.

Damurhuda bus stand van driver Lutfar Rahman told Daily Star, ‘I have never seen so much heat in my life. There is no peace even in Chema. People don’t want to go out in the heat. Our rent is also low.’

Meanwhile, the district administration is warning pedestrians and local residents by miking in important areas of the city to make the public aware of the intense heat. It is forbidden to go out of the house without necessity. Extra caution is requested for children and the elderly.

Jaminur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Chuadanga Meteorological Office, told Daily Star, ‘The intense heat that has been going on for the past few days has turned into an extremely intense heat. Such temperature may prevail for two more days. Meanwhile, there is no forecast of rain.’
