Case against BNP workers vs. case against criminals

Staff Reporter: Every time there is a press conference of BNP, the leaders count cases against thousands to lakhs of workers. Although a review of the cases against them shows that these are cases due to some crime, it is not reasonable to claim them as political cases.
Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina said during an exchange of views with members of the central committee on the occasion of the 52nd founding anniversary of Bangladesh Farmers League, that no case filed against BNP leaders and workers is political. Accused in specific criminal cases like arson, grenade attacks, firearms smuggling and corruption have been accused in these cases. He said, ‘Today they (BNP) are crying everywhere and saying there is a case against them. They have to ask the cases of what? Cases of various crimes including arson, weapons smuggling, grenade attack. They have committed crimes, legal action has been taken against them. That is the reality.’
BNP has repeatedly said that since Awami League came to power in 2009, there have been 112,000 cases so far. The accused are about 40 lakh. Charge sheets have been submitted in most of the cases. Along with this, old corruption cases filed against senior leaders of One-Eleven and later are active.
Earlier, on March 29, Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader asked Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir for the list of BNP leaders and activists, strongly protesting the BNP Secretary General’s statement that ‘80% of BNP leaders and workers have been repressed during this government’s tenure’. .

The cases against them are cases of car burning, cases of attacks on police and people and cases of terrorist activities. In all these cases they have been arrested, cases against them are pending in court. The foreign minister said that thousands of people are arrested every day in Bangladesh for the crime of theft, robbery, extortion and other terrorist activities. BNP leaders Mirza Fakhrul and Rizvi Saheb are giving the account of the arrests, it seems that those who are involved in terrorist activities are being arrested every day, those who are criminals in the police register, are claiming to be BNP workers.
Political analyst Subhash Singh Roy feels the time has come to challenge what is repeatedly said about the number of arrests of BNP activists. In any political situation, when there is an attack, anarchy is carried out, those who are arrested are arrested because of that crime, the absurd saying that they are arrested because of the leaders and workers of any party makes no sense.
