Shanto Saha, a student of the third year (’20 batch) of civil engineering department of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology and Tawfiq Hossain, a brilliant student of the same department, 2nd year (’21 batch) were killed in a head-on collision between a passenger bus and a motorcycle in Jianagar area of Chittagong-Kaptai highway.

In this accident, another student of Chuet named Himu was seriously injured and is undergoing treatment in ICU of Chittagong Medical College Hospital. Deceased Shanto Saha is the son of Kajal Saha of Ward No. 4 of Narsingdi Sadar Union of Narsingdi District, Taufiq Hossain is the son of Mohammad Delwar Hossain of Ward No. 2 of New College Road in Sudharam area of Noakhali District. Both are meritorious students of Civil Engineering Department of Chuet. Zakaria Himu, a 2nd year student (’21 batch) of Civil Engineering Department was seriously injured in this accident.
According to local sources, around 4.30 pm on Monday, three students of Chuet, Shanto Saha, Tawfiq Hossain and Zakaria Himu, were traveling towards Rangunia upazila from the Chuet campus on a motorcycle. At this time, Shanto Saha was killed on the spot. Later, Tawfiq Hossain was taken to the city’s Evercare Hospital with serious injuries, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The other student who was on the motorcycle in this accident Zakaria Himu, a 2nd year student of civil engineering department (’21 batch) is undergoing treatment at Ever Care Hospital in Chittagong city.
After this incident, angry Chuet students came out on the Chittagong-Kaptai highway and seized several buses of Shah Amanat Paribahan.
Javed Hossain, in-charge of Chuet police outpost, was called several times on his mobile phone to inquire about the incident, but his statement was not received.
Chuet Student Welfare Department Director Professor Dr. Md. Rezaul Karim said that the incident will be properly investigated and action will be taken.
