3 more days of heat alert, death toll rises

Severe heatwave is sweeping over most of the country’s districts. In summer, public life is tense. School holidays have also increased due to the intensity of summer. 3 deaths were reported yesterday due to heatstroke. In such a situation, the Meteorological Department has again issued a 72-hour heat alert on Monday. Heat alert has been issued for the third consecutive time this month. Meteorologists believe that a new heat alert may be issued in the last week of April.

From the first week of this month, heat wave started in some districts of Bangladesh. Then in the last two weeks heat wave has spread almost all over the country. In this, severe heat waves are seen flowing over several districts in the southwestern part of the country. Meanwhile, Jessore has recorded the highest temperature this year at 42.6 degrees Celsius.

The temperature in Chuadanga district is between 40 and 42.3 degrees. And the maximum temperature recorded in Dhaka is 40.4 degrees Celsius.

About the ongoing heat wave, meteorologist AKM Nazmul Haque said, considering the weather conditions, the duration of the ongoing heat alert has been extended till Thursday morning. We expect this heatwave to continue throughout April. Also there can be heat wave in May. The Meteorological Department will decide to extend the heat alert period considering the subsequent weather conditions.

Meanwhile, the maximum temperature of the country was lower yesterday compared to the last few days. However, it may increase again from today, said the Meteorological Department. According to the Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature in the country in the last 24 hours was 40.6 degrees Celsius. This temperature was recorded in Khulna district, Chuadanga and Jessore of Khulna division. Along with these three districts, Bagerhat, Kushtia, Pabna and Rajshahi districts are experiencing intense heat waves. Apart from this, mild to moderate heat wave is flowing over the remaining districts of Rajshahi and Khulna along with Dhaka, Rangpur, Barisal divisions and Moulvibazar, Rangamati districts. According to the Meteorological Department, the ongoing heatwave over these districts may spread further. At the same time discomfort may prevail due to excess of water vapor. During this time the day temperature may increase slightly, but the night temperature may remain unchanged. Meanwhile, in the forecast for the next three days, two days of rain have been predicted in Sylhet division. At this time, hail and wind may blow. 50 mm of rain has been recorded in Sylhet in the last 24 hours as well. On the other hand, at the beginning of May, it may rain in different parts of the country, said the Director of Meteorological Department. Azizur Rahman said, then the temperature may come down.

Heatstroke deaths are on the rise: Due to intense heat, people’s life has been disturbed all over the country. 3 people died in heatstroke yesterday. 10 deaths have been reported in three days. A rickshaw driver named Abdul Awal (45) died of heatstroke yesterday. When the rickshaw driver was taken unconscious from the road behind the Dhaka Medical Nursing College in the capital to the emergency department of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital, the doctor declared him dead. According to eyewitnesses, the rickshaw driver was driving the rickshaw behind the nursing college and fell unconscious on the road. He later died after being rushed to the hospital. Dr. Dhaka Medical College Hospital Emergency Department Medical Officer. Kishore Kumar said, found a rickshaw puller dead. However, it will be known after the post-mortem whether he died of heatstroke.
Meanwhile, 2 women died due to heatstroke within an hour in Chuadanga due to extreme heat wave. Both of them are residents of Beguarkhal village of Nagdah union of Alamdanga upazila. Ashura Khatun (25) and Ayesha Begum (70) died yesterday morning while taking rice to the field for her husband. Locals said that Anwar Hossain of Beguarkhal village went to work in the field without eating in the morning. Around 9:30 AM, wife Ashura Khatun was taking rice to the field for her husband. Before reaching her husband’s field, Ashura Khatun fell to the ground in the field of land. Ashura died before field farmers reached the spot and took him to a doctor. An hour later, Ayesha Begum, wife of Akkas Ali of the same village, died at 10:30 am. He was panting in the intense heat of the past few days. Rashedul Islam, a village doctor who was present at the scene, said that Ayesha Begum fell ill in the intense heat of the past few days. Both died of heatstroke.
